Monterrey, Mexico
- Monterrey is Mexico’s
third largest city, and the center of Mexican industry. Though
there are some colonial style buildings, Monterrey is one of Mexico’s
most modern cities
- Monterrey is
surrounded by the Sierra Madre mountains at an elevation of 1,800
feet above sea level. The mountain view is spectacular and is
dominated by Cerro de la Silla (Saddle Mountain), which has come to
be a symbol of the city.
- Monterrey was named
in 1596 after the Count of Monterrey who was the Viceroy of New
Spain.
- The territory where
the Mexican state of Nuevo Leon is now known, was discovered by
Europeans in the 16th century. Between the years 1530 and 1577 it is
believed that Alvaro Nunez Cabeza and Andres de Olmos reached the
land in Central America. In 1577 Alberto del Canto discovered El
Valle de Extremadura where the modern city of Monterrey is now
located. He also discovered las Minas de Gregorio, now known as
Cerralvo, and las Minas de Trinidad, now Monclova.

Last December 19th, 2001 our family went
to Monterey, Mexico. We went to bless Orphan
children with the Gospel of Jesus, and a special Christmas
present: Jesus
Himself! Thanks for your
prayers during this event. It was a time for sharing what God has given
us. Our talents, gifts and calling are meant to be give them
away. We want to thank those that blessed a child, by sending
toys, t-shirts, caps, coloring books, pencils, clothes, etc.
Thanks must be given to God for the willing hearts that made this
whole thing possible. |
